IMS stands for "IP Multimedia Subsystem" as
defined by the
3GPP Third Generation Patnership
Program.

The application in the home is for the access
layer to be computers, game consoles, wireless
handsets, phone system software and other
devices that are network capable.

Control layer devices will be the router, and cable
modem.  Eventually a fire wall appliance will be
added.

Further functionality such as an SMS message
when web sites are accessed would allow for
dynamic parental control of network usage.

Networking for the home
The home web page, hosted in a small
network appliance, would perform these
functions.

Open a browser, the grocery list function
compares prices across local stores to get
the best value.

Network gaming is possible, through games
designed specifically for local network play.

A scheduling utility would scroll
appointments and times across the bottom
of the screen to remind all people of
upcoming events.

Integrate with Asterisk for an all IP based
communication system.
